Tamara Williams Memorial Lecture set for March 28

Dr. Tricia Bent-Goodley

Tamara Williams was a University of Michigan student and Family Housing resident when she was killed by her boyfriend in 1997. The annual lecture is meant to commemorate her life, raise awareness of domestic and dating violence, and increase interest in their prevention.

UNDERSTANDING INTIMATE PARTNER VIOLENCE AND WHY RACE MATTERS

Tricia Bent-Goodley, Ph.D., MSW, LICSW

The author of “The Ultimate Betrayal: A Renewed Look at Intimate Partner Violence,” Tricia Bent-Goodley is Professor of Social Work and Chair of the Community, Administration and Policy Practice Sequence at Howard University School of Social Work.  She has a passion for advancing social justice and human rights in relation to women’s development, violence against women, and issues impacting Black families and communities.  Dr. Bent-Goodley’s research has focused on violence against women and girls, HIV prevention, and healthy relationship education.  She has developed community and faith-based domestic violence interventions with a focus on strengthening the Black family.  The Council on Social Work Education selected her to receive its National Award for Distinguished Achievement in Social Work Education.
